The customer had bought some cheap Wi-Fi cameras a number of years ago that didn’t have great quality and were about to become obsolete. They requested a CCTV system that was affordable, up to date, and that they wouldn’t have to pay any ongoing charges for the use of or for the storage of their footage. They also wanted something with good quality night vision as they had heard of attempted vehicle break-ins in the area.

We decided to use the new Uniview camera system, which is an IP, PoE digital type of CCTV. This means the cable transmission system uses IP connections similar to the connections used in computer router/internet connections, providing a neat cabling solution that gives crisp clear images without any possibility of noise or interference.
The cameras chosen also had dual illumination, meaning they had traditional infrared illuminators twinned with LED white lights. This means the camera can sit in infrared (black and white mode) with no obtrusive white lights most of the time, but use the onboard intrusion detection to sense movement on the image and turn on the onboard white lights. Acting like a security light, this then switches the image to full colour and also alerts the intruder to the camera and shows that the camera is active and working. Then when the intruder leaves the area the camera automatically switches back to infrared mode and turns off the white lights.
We decided to mount the NVR (network video recorder) on the wall to save space and also give a neat secure fitting. The customer was very happy with the result which gave them a cost-effective, simple solution to securing the front and back of their property with a high-quality, feature-laden home security system. The customer had already worked with the DAS Protection team for the installation of their intruder alarm so were returning customers who now had peace of mind for the external perimeter of the property.
